School of Athens - by Raphael

How can art be a mirror of society?

This painting was painted in the period of the renaissance by an artist named Raphael. This painting represents the passing of knowledge to people and the architectural design used. In this painting there is people who is making calculation, reading and writing. This painting represents art, people and knowledge. The architecture in the background such as using arches, art techniques, statues, and detailed design is used to make this painting look more realistic. Raphael used creative techniques to create an realistic artwork.

Where are you in the painting?

If I was in this painting I would like to be Raphael, Raphael is the one that has the black hat on the head on the right side of the painting. I choose to be him because you get to learn how to use creative art techniques such as perspective etc. I used to be good in art when I was young and I enjoyed it. I like to learn, gain new experience and also gain knowledge. As Raphael is in the painting he can learn and get many knowledge just by staying there and listening to people teaching other people. I also like to see people demonstrate mathematical calculation and to take note about it, I also like to be with people and discus just like Raphael is surrounded by the people around him. I would like to learn things and master them just like when Raphael painted this painting.

Da Vinci a true renaissance man

This was one of Leonardo's warfare inventions

Leonardo Da Vinci was a renaissance man because he had invented lots of weapons and invented things people didn't even thing about. Leonardo had invented a flying machine, a parachute and lots more of skeches. Eventhough they were skeches but they worked. He also had painted paintings that looked real. He made his work in secracy, and his handrighting was all opposite. He didnt and couldnt go to school because he was a poor man. He had mold a giant horse made out of copper. People started to listen to him, and he had made greater defences and warfare machines. Although Leonardo had skecth all his work but he had never built them.

Regrets in life

Because of you

I will not make the same mistakes that you did
I will not let myself cause my heart so much misery
I will not break the way you did
You fell so hard
I learned the hard way, to never let it get that far

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side
So I don't get hurt
Because of you
I find it hard to trust
Not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you
I am afraid

I lose my way
And it's not too long before you point it out
I cannot cry
Because I know that's weakness in your eyes
I'm forced to fake a smile, a laugh
Every day of my life
My heart can't possibly break
When it wasn't even whole to start with

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side
So I don't get hurt
Because of you
I find it hard to trust
Not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you
I am afraid

I watched you die
I heard you cry
Every night in your sleep
I was so young
You should have known better than to lean on me
You never thought of anyone else
You just saw your pain
And now I cry
In the middle of the night
Over the same damn thing

Because of you
I never stray too far from the sidewalk
Because of you
I learned to play on the safe side so I don't get hurt
Because of you
I tried my hardest just to forget everything
Because of you
I don't know how to let anyone else in
Because of you
I'm ashamed of my life because it's empty
Because of you
I am afraid

Because of you

Desert painting by the blog studios

This song was sunged by Kelly Clarkson. she wanted to tell people that how did she got through life. All because of her parents she had influenced the bad part of them and had gave her a bad life. Also that the parents had made her life miserable and not teaching or giving advice to her. She did not also get guidance through out her life. She remembers the bad part of life and never get to trust other people, and she cant forget the past and keeps on remembering the mistakes the other people did around her. This song might tell other culture that because of the parent the child inherited the bad habit of the parent and that we should be responsible of our own child. This song might tell us that to live lively and to meet other people and know our neighborhoods or even the people around us.

Patience waiting
Jaison Cianell: Autmn Falls

Patience searching for a person

Cloaking the impatience’s mind with its soft blanket

Patience releasing all of their stress

In the book The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho sent a very important message about being patience in overcoming your destiny. It doesn't matter how long it takes realize your destiny but overcoming it needs great patience. As Santiago the min character in the Alchemist crosses the whole desert to overcome his destiny, and by doing that he needs his patience to gain strength. People from every culture wants to realize their destiny but some fail to because of impatience.Although patience has a great meaning but some people don't use it to pursue his destiny.

Realizing your destiny

Destiny Chasers

“If either of us had joined this caravan based only on personal courage, but without understanding that language, this journey would have been more difficult” (Coelho 75). Santiago, a young shepherd boy who dreamt about treasures that was hidden in the Great Pyramids of Giza. It was his destiny to find this treasure. Santiago who lived amongst the hills of Andalusia, Spain his entire childhood, is now heading off to Egypt to overcome his destiny. During his journey, Santiago meets with people who will guide him to realize his destiny. He finds love, learns Alchemy, understood the Universal language, and learns to read omens throughout his journey of finding his treasure. Although Santiago has overcome his destiny but he couldn’t have done it if he wasn’t courageous, open-minded and Persistent enough. These 3 qualities of Santiago served him well throughout his journey accomplish his destiny.

On his journey, Santiago is brave enough to stand up, and to head for his destiny, his courage has shown him ways that he though that he wouldn’t encounter. Above all Santiago wouldn’t have gotten far to Egypt if he didn’t find new ways of traveling or find the secrets of life. One afternoon, Santiago’s courage helped him to tell his father that he didn’t want to become a priest. That he wanted to be a shepherd so that he could travel around and achieve his destiny. Santiago had the courage to leave his hometown and to travel to Egypt. During his journey to an oasis he meets an Alchemist, an alchemist that was a mentor to him but the alchemist had to test the boys courage, and to see if he was ready for what was coming; the boy was astonished that the presence of the alchemist was so much more powerful and mysterious. “I had to test your courage,” the stranger said. “Courage is the quality most essential to understanding the language of the world.” said the Alchemist (Coelho106). Santiago understood that he needed courage to learn the language of the world. His courage has helped him a lot by facing a king of Salem, facing love, face the Alchemist, and made friends with a stranger who he found out that he was an English man, and was heading the similar path that Santiago was heading, but all the courage that Santiago had isn’t enough to prevail his destiny. Santiago had courage to face lots of people, without his courage Santiago wouldn’t have fallen in love, or get guidance from the king of Salem, the Alchemist, or the English men. When Santiago and the alchemist had got captured with a desert tribal group of warrior. Santiago needed his courage and the mentorship of the alchemist to communicate with other souls of the world. By communicating with the wind and other souls of the world he could be able to transform his self into wind, and by doing that he had proven to the chieftain of the tribe that this boy was an alchemist and had know the power of alchemy. The Knowledge of alchemy could blow up his tents and his soldiers. Although Santiago’s courage has helped him a lot to interact with other people, he wouldn’t have done it if he was an open-minded person.

Santiago is an open-minded person because he finds new ways to get going once he gets stuck in his quest or to be in a better position in life. When he finds new ways in life, life gets better fir him. For Example the boy didn’t have any money left after he got mugged. So he started looking for food first, he went to a crystal shop and just by looking at the mirror of the shop he knew that this shop needs cleaning. So he wanted to clean it in exchange for food. The boy asks the crystal merchant, “I can clean up those glasses in the window, if you want,” said the boy. The way they look now, nobody is going to buy them.”(Coelho 43) when the boy was cleaning, 2 customers came in the shop and had brought some crystals. The Crystal merchant was happy and had offered the boy to work in his shop. Now the boy knew that once you do something that is thoughtful in life, life gives you something else as a reward. Santiago is a positive thinker; when he wants to buy a scabbard in a market he was in said that he would buy them once he found his treasure. This means that he still wanted to buy the scabbard and finds new ways of buying them even though he didn’t have enough money. On the way to an oasis, Santiago saw hawk flying and he read the flight of the birds, and they told him that an army was coming. So He thinks about others, that if the army came here and captured them and made them prisoners. Which he didn’t want to be in because he wanted to complete his destiny, so he decided to warn the others about the army that was about to coming. Santiago’s open minded has made him think of others, and the people of the oasis want to reward him because he had saved them. All Though Santiago’s open-mindedness has helped in his journey he still needed to persist or force himself to make his destiny possible.

Santiago had always persisted himself in his life, and now by persisting his dreams he can make it in reality. Santiago had always persisted himself and it had helped him a lot in his journey because without persisting himself he wouldn’t have gotten far to his dreams. “He swept the floor using his jacket and lay down; using the book he had just finished reading as a pillow. He told himself that he would have to start reading thicker books: they lasted longer, and made more comfortable pillows.” Said the boy (Coelho 3). Santiago started out by persisting himself to read thicker books. This also brought knowledge to him and told him fantasies in stories. The knowledge of reading is also the knowledge of learning the language of the world. Later on his journey the Alchemist congratulated Santiago for pursuing his destiny till the end. Even though Santiago didn’t learn anything from the Alchemist but he observed his actions though the guide he was given. Finally when Santiago comes upon his treasure he had to dig for it and of cause he knew that if he gave up now after he’d learn. He would waste so much time discovering his personality. So he continues to dig until he dug upon his treasure.

Santiago’s major traits such as courage, open-mindedness, and persistence have supported Santiago through out his journey to accomplish his destiny. Santiago’s traits have led him successfully to the right path of his dreams. He had found love and had learned alchemy and found his treasures. Santiago had recognized his self and had fulfilled his destiny. If people have a dream they should chase it, just as Santiago did.

Focus on your Destiny

Raj: Focus

In realizing my destiny I will have to realize and focus though out my child hood. I have learned to focus in my life just as Santiago did when he was focusing to realize his destiny. Santiago had persisted himself to chase after his dreams. Each and every one of us have our own dream to archive and by focusing on that dream it will help you to strengthen up your destiny. Although its nature to make people make mistakes and people get unfocused on realizing their destiny.

Melodies of dreams

I chose the poem of Langston Hughes because i thought that the mother had a hard life and asking the son not to repeat her actions. I tried to get suffering pictures to describe the mothers life.

Matt Harding's Connecting to a Global Tribe

Connecting to the tribes of the world

I think that Matt did a fantastic job. I was laughing when I saw the first part, but then I was amazed that how did he manged to get the whole world to dance with him. It must have taken him months organize the video clip. I think that the dancing connects with Tragore's poem and the video clip:'The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.." I that Wherever Matt is in the world, the world is dancing with him. His video was kind of funny the first time he is alone but when people started to join him, I felt that the whole world was alive and was dancing with Matt. I felt when i watched this that we are all connected to the world. I think that the movie is great combined with the poem.

I chose this picture because I can see two people dancing which shows that the world is connected. You can also see a whirl around these figures i which is like the spinning world.

The Night Catcher

Landscape at Céret (Paysage de Céret), Céret, summer 1911

I am the Dream

I am the Dream
Slipping through your sleepless night
Wrapping your mind in vivid bright illusions.

I am the dream,
Inspiring the action of heroes
Leaping into the dark and shadows of your mind
Fading with the morning light.

I am a paradise, priceless
Like a bright splashing waterfall.
Sleepers will seek my protection, and
I will release all of your troubles in the merciless night.

I chose this picture because it looks like a maze. In dreams sleepers can sometimes get trapped in this cubic maze. Picasso's painting here is done in his cubist period which is distorted realities, just like dreams.

Susan Boyle

I thought that Susan couldn’t or didn’t have any talent. I thought that most people make judge by the look but I think that the inside is the most important part to judge a person. I was surprised and felt sorry how people threatened her during the beginning. All of the audience were laughing and then they, were astonished that she sung beautifully during the show.

I think that the poem that Langston Hughes wrote meant, to keep all of the dreams that you have inspired, and don’t let go. I think that these people were special and have talents, and that Susan wanted to share her gift to the world.
